ALEX’S 3ON3 BASKETBALL CHALLENGE

Rules & Regulations
General

Only one basket will be used and the boundary will be half the regulation court.
Each team will consist of at least two players and a maximum of three substitutes. Teams must have two players or forfeit the game. Each team will designate a captain to represent the team.

Warm Up
Teams can warm up at the same time, but are required to share the time and space available prior to the beginning of the game. Teams that have been allocated for the next game on their court have sole rights to warm up on that court.

Possession
First possession of the ball at the beginning of the game will be decided by a coinflip. The second named team on the score sheet has first possession of the ball to begin the second half of play.
To differentiate teams for the spectators, one team may be required to wear special Alex basketball jersey during the game.

Shooting
If the shot is unsuccessful, play continues. If the offensive ‘shooting’ team gains the rebound i.e. retains possession after an unsuccessful shot attempt, it may continue to attack without passing the ball outside the designated point line. If the defensive team gains the rebound/possession, it must take the ball beyond the designated point line before starting an attack.

Each time a team has scored, the ball changes possession. Before the game continues, the ball has to be ‘checked’, i.e. touched by an opponent at the top of the designated point line. Before a basket is scored, two players of the attacking team must have touched the ball. A player cannot bring the ball into play after the ‘check’ and score from that single possession.

Scoring
A successful basket made from any point inside the court area (as marked) scores ONE POINT (including beyond the three point line).

Ball Out Of Play
When the ball passes over the base line or the sidelines, the opponents of the team which last touched the ball, bring it into play by rechecking the ball.

Game Duration
The game is played in 10 minutes time. The time frame may alter to suit the circumstances of the competition. The organisers reserve the right to alter the duration of games.

Time Outs
No time-outs will be allowed during the game. Time delays may be called for injuries at the organisers’ discretion.

Fouls
1. Fouls will be called by the referee.

2. If a player is fouled during play, the foul is recorded, and the offense keeps possession of the ball beginning up top.

[Before the 7th team foul]- If a foul is called while a player is attempting a shot, and the shot is made, the basket counts, the foul is recorded and possession goes over to the other team, beginning at the top of the court.

[Before the 7th team foul]- If a foul is called while a player is attempting a shot, and the shot is missed, the foul is recorded, and the player receives one foul shot, worth one (1) point.

On and beyond the 7th team foul, shooting or non-shooting, the offense is given a one (1) point free throw attempt AND possession of the ball to be taken out at the top of the court, regardless of whether the free throw is made or missed.

3. A Referee, Scorekeeper, or Tournament Official may call a technical foul for flagrant, intentional fouls. A dead ball technical foul shot will be awarded to the team fouled. The team captain selects the shooter for one shot from free throw distance. The shooting team also receives the ball out-of-bounds following the free throw, whether the shot is made or missed.

4. Continual misconduct or flagrant/intentional fouling(unsportman-like action) will result in immediate dismissal of the guilty player or team from that particular game and/or all remaining games at the discretion of the Tournament Officials. Fighting and/or throwing a punch will not be tolerated under ANY circumstances and will result in immediate dismissal of the entire team without refund of registration fees.

Rule Changes
The event administration reserves the right to change the rules, in consultation with team managers, to meet circumstances as they arise.
Each team is expected to keep itself informed about games, game times, and courts. Changes may need to be made to meet altering circumstances.
